TASD Supplemental Educational Services (SES)
FREE Tutoring
Students who qualify for free or reduced priced lunch and attend the Tunkhannock Area Middle School (in Corrective Action I - Making Progress) may apply for free tutoring in Reading and Mathematics through Supplemental Education Services (SES). Sessions are provided as arranged by Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) approved providers. The providers work to help students build and strengthen the skills they'll need to be successful.
You can meet providers the PDE-approved SES Provider Fair that will be held in the Middle School Library on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 from 5:00 - 7:00pm.
Parents and families can sign up during two Open Enrollment periods:September 2 - October 23, 2009
or
November 23, 2009 - February 12, 2010
If you are unable to attend the fair or wish to arranged for the free tutoring before the fair, please follow the steps provided below:Step 1
Review SES Provider Information provided in the TASD SES Provider Information Booklet to learn more about providers.
Step 2
Before making a choice, talk with providers over the telephone or arrange to meet with them to discuss your child's needs. The TASD SES Provider Information Booklet includes a list of questions Provider Information Booklet to help you choose the best provider.

Step 3
Please complete the front side of the Tunkhannock Area School District SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATIONAL SERVICES PROVIDER SELECTION FORM and indicate three choices from the list of approved providers. It is important to make these choices in case your first choice is not able to provide the services. If your child is eligible for SES and your first/second choice is not available, the District will automatically assign your child to your next available choice.
You will also need to review the second page of the Provider Selection Form - the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) release of information form. Please sign and date the form where indicated to allow the school district to release academic information to the provider you have chosen.

Return the completed form to the Tunkhannock Area Middle School Main Office or mail it to:

If your child is eligible for services, the approved provider will contact you to tell you when the tutoring services will begin.
If your child is not eligible for services, you will receive notification from the School District.
If there is not enough funding to provide services to all students who apply, TASD must give priority to providing services to the lowest-achieving eligible students.Additional Information
Which schools must offer SES tutoring during 2009-10?
The Tunkhannock Area Middle School must offer free SES tutoring to students who are eligible for free and reduced price lunch.How are parents notified?
Parents of eligible students are being notified via U.S. Mail. Including in this mailing will be a letter notifying the parent/guardian of the progress of their child's school, information on SES, information on SES providers, as well as an application to apply, and a release to sign to allow information to be shared with providers.
In addition, the District has scheduled two SES Provider Fairs:Thursday, September 17, 2009 from 6:30 - 7:30pm in the Middle School Cafeteria
Tuesday, November 24, 2009 from 5:30 - 7:00pm in the Middle School CafeteriaThe District will also reach out to parents and students in the following ways:
SES information will be posted on the District website. SES information packets will be available in the Middle School Office and the Tunkhannock Public Library, Tunkhannock PA All parents/guardians of eligible students will receive reminder calls via the central voice messaging system both before the Fair and before the deadline to sign up. Informational ads will be appear in local newspapers. Posters will be in all SES eligible schools.
